As you can see from the above links, this site is about quite a number of things but mostly about our Tonner Family. The name doontheclyde came about when I had to create a username for a particular login. I don't know about anyone else but I prefer to keep my username simple so if possible I use my name plus a few numbers. This time it wasn't to be, in frustration I tapped out the worddoontheclyde and there it was - available! And so some months later when seeking a domain name with Hostinginsiders, how pleased I  was that my first and only choice was indeed doontheclyde!

Bridget and Joe Tonner, along with their brood of 12 who had all been born in Old Kilpatrick between the years 1941 and 1960, moved from Old Kilpatrick to Clydebank in 1962 making thisTonner familyindeed 'Doontheclyders'.

Their brood of 12 are, and have been for many years scattered throughout the planet, with Charles residing in France; Teresa, Mary, Agnes and Catherine in Australia; Billy and John in England; Joe in New Zealand; and Pat, Jim, George and Stephen remaining close to the river Clyde.

For some time now we've kept in touch viaGoogle Groups, a place for family and friends to communicateand so it was that we made contact with Margaret Pritchard (nee Bird) our cousin, also a Doontheclyder now residing in England. Margaret had this to say recently about the Waverley Paddle Steamer,
The Waverly also sails from Southampton around the Isle of wight during the summer calling at Portsmouth etc. Ernie and I have been on it a few times. It brings back a lot of memories for me, as my sister Irene and I used to go for a week doon the watter to Rothesay most year's wi the weans for a week before they went back to school after the summer hols. It hasn't changed much except you can now have a meal on board, the bar is still the same and the engines are still as pristine as ever. Wonderful.

As one of the family members living in Australia, so it's only fitting in my opinion that part of the site should be dedicated to my life here, hence the links to various Australian features. Some of the links are that of organisations to which I belong while others are to sites belonging to family and friends.
